Pergamano Parchment Craft Tools Guide

 

 

This is a basic guide to the Pergamano perforating tools for beginners

 

 

1 Needle Perforating Tool

Pergamano Single Needle Tool

Appearance

The 1 Needle Tool comes in two sizes: Regular (10241) and Bold (10229)

 

Notes

This is the most flexible parchment craft tool, it creates a single hole and so will replace any multi needle tool (it just takes longer!) and can also be used for Stippling.

 

Works with...

The regular single needle tool works with the most of the multi grids including Straight Grid 4 and Diagonal Grid 25. The Bold single needle tool works with the Bold Straight And Diagonal Multi Grids 19 and 28.

 

 

2 Needle Perforating Tool

Pergamano 2 Needle Tool

Appearance

The 2 Needle Perforating Tool has two Needles that create two holes very close together.

 

Notes

This tool can be used to make a picot edging, always ensure that 1 of the 2 needles is re-inserted into the last made perforation keeping the holes equidistant.

The 2 needle tool works with the some of the multi grids including Straight Grid 4 and Diagonal Grid 25.

 

 

3 Needle Perforating Tool

Appearance

The 3 Needle Tool has three needles creating three holes in a triangular pattern.

 

Notes

This tool can be used to make an edging or main body pattern, you can vary patterns by re-inserting 1 of the 2 needles into the last made perforation keeping the holes equidistant. Try out different ways of using this multi needle

4 Needle Perforating Tool

Appearance
The 4 needle Perforating Tool has 4 Needles in a square pattern.
 
Notes
This tool can be used to make the perforations which can be cut to create the small crosses that are so traditionally part of parchment craft. The 4 needle tool is also frequently used in perforating outlines where the outer perforations are cut out. 2 needles can be re-inserted into the last made perforation keeping the holes equidistant.

The 4 needle tool works with the some of the multi grids.

 

 

5 Needle Perforating Tool

Pergamano 5 Needle Tool

Appearance

The 5 Needle Tool has 5 Needles in a square pattern with one needle in the centre.

 

Notes

The 5 needle perforating tool is often used for perforating borders. The following technique is used for this: first make a shallow perforation, then emboss a circle in the middle. Then perforate deeply and turn the perforating tool first a little to the left and then a little to the right during the deep perforating.  This technique creates a very pretty border.

5 in a Circle Perforating Tool

Appearance

The 5 in a Circle perforating tool has 5 Needles in a circle.

 

Notes

The Five in a Circle perforating tool is often used for perforating borders when cut out creates a very attractive border. To keep the perforations equidistant re-insert one needle in one of the last made holes.

4 Split Edging Tool

Appearance

The 4 Split Tool has 4 Needles in a line, the needles are closer together at the base. 

 

Notes

The 4 Split tool is a quick edging tool, ideal for people who have trouble using parchment craft scissors to cut a picot edge. If you hold this tool in a 45 degree angle into the parchment it will produce a line of holes that can be gently pulled apart. A very quick alternative to the two needle tool and parchment scissors though not as neat.

2 Split Edging Tool

Appearance

The 2 Split Edging Tool has 2 Needles in a line, the needles are closer together at the base than the 2 Needle Tool. 

 

Notes

The 2 Split tool is a quick edging tool, ideal for people who have trouble using parchment craft scissors to cut a picot edge. Semi Circle Perforating Tool

Appearance

The Semi Circle Perforating Tool is a multi needle tool that has eight needles arranged in a 6mm diameter Semi Circle. The outer needles are slightly longer that the other 4 needles

 

Notes

The Semi Circle tool can be used as an edging tool, to create a beautiful scalloped edge along a straight or curved line by matching the outer two needles to the line and re-inserting the outer needle in the last perforated hole. It can also be used to perforate a circle by perforating two semi circles facing each other, matching the outer needles (perforating them twice).

 

Works with...

Mainly as an edging tool, cut perforations carefully with parchment scissors.

 

 

Flower Perforating Tool

Appearance

The Flower tool has 7 Needles, 6 needles in a hexagon with one in the middle. 

 

Notes

The Flower tool is very decorative as it is, and you can also cut out the perforations, thus creating a little star.

4 in 4 Perforating Tool

Pergamano Four in Four Tool

Appearance

The 4 in 4 Tool has 8 Needles, 4 needles in a small square shape in the centre with four outer needles, also in a square shape. The outer needles are slightly longer than the inner needles.

 

Notes

The Four in Four tool is very useful, the inner four needle perforations can be cut into a cross, this cross is slightly larger than the crosses made with the 4 needle perforating tool. The outer longer needles can be used to match the pattern exactly when working a line of perforations, just re-insert the outer needles in the last perforated holes. Semi Square Perforating Tool

Appearance

The Semi Square Tool has 10 Needles in the shape of a right angled triangle or half square. The 3 outer needles are slightly longer than the inner needles.

 

Notes

Using this perforating tool you can perforate a semi-square and complete squares as well. Two opposing semi-squares together form a complete square. The outer longer needles can be used to match the pattern exactly when working a line of perforations, just re-insert the outer needles in the last perforated holes. Try out different methods of matching for different patterns.

Heart Perforating Tool

The Heart Perforating Tool has 14 needles in the shape of a heart. 

 

Notes

The perforations can be cut insuch a way that you can create an "open" heartshape by cutting out the centre with parchment craft scissors. Alternatively you can leave the centre uncut and emboss the perforated heartshape. Try the heart in different orientations to create new patterns of your own. Semi Star Perforating Tool

Appearance

The Semi Star Tool has has 9 needles. The outer needles are slightly longer.

 

Notes

Using this perforating tool you can perforate a semi-star and complete star as well. Two opposing semi-stars together form a complete star. The outer longer needles can be used to match the pattern exactly when working a line of perforations, just re-insert the outer needles in the last perforated holes. Cross Perforating Tool

The Cross Perforating Tool has 12 needles in the shape of a cross. The outer 8 needles are slightly longer.

 

Notes

Drop Perforating Tool

The Drop Perforating Tool  has 12 needles in the shape of a raindrop. 

 

Notes

The perforations can be cut insuch a way that you can create an "open" drop shape by cutting out the centre with parchment craft scissors. Alternatively you can leave the centre uncut and emboss the perforated drop shape. Try the drop in different orientations to create flowers and leaves. Angle Perforating Tool

The Angle Perforating Tool is a multi needle tool that has 5 needles in the shape of a right angle.

 

Notes

The Angle tool can be used as an edging tool, to create a beautiful v edge along a straight or curved line by matching the outer two needles to the line and re-inserting the outer needle in the last perforated hole. It can also be used to perforate a square by perforating two halves facing each other, matching the outer needles (perforating them twice).

Almond Perforating Tool

The Almond Perforating Tool has 10 needles in the shape of an eye or almond, of which the outer 2 needles are slightly longer. 

 

Notes

The perforations can be cut in such a way that you can create an "open" almond shape by cutting out the centre with parchment craft scissors. Alternatively you can leave the centre uncut and emboss the perforated almond shape. Try the almond in different orientations to create flowers and leaves. This tool can also be used to make distinctive borders by re-inserting the longer needles in the last hole to keep the patterns equidistant

Moon Perforating Tool

The Moon Perforating Tool has 12 needles in the shape of a crescent moon, the outer 2 needles are slightly longer. 

 

Notes

The Moon tool can be used to make distinctive borders by re-inserting the longer needles in the last hole to keep the patterns equidistant.  Or emboss the centre of the motif or cut out the perforations with parchment craft scissors or emboss between the perforations to create white work. Swirl Perforating Tool

The Swirl Perforating Tool has 10 needles in the shape of a comma or swirl, the outer 2 needles are slightly longer. 

 

Notes

The Swirl tool can be combined with other multi needle tools to make beautiful borders.  It can also be used with a 'five in a circle' as the centre and the swirl tool as the outer points. Star Point Perforating Tool

The Star Point Perforating Tool has 7 needles in the shape of a point, the outer 2 needles are slightly longer. 

 

Notes

The Star Point tool can be used to create a small 4 point star; perforate once then reverse the tool and perforate again matching the holes. The Semi Circle Mini is a multi needle tool that has 6 needles arranged 3,6mm diameter Half Circle. The outer needles are slightly longer that the other 4 needles

 

Notes

The Semi Circle tool can be used as an edging tool, to create a beautiful scalloped edge along a straight or curved line by matching the outer two needles to the line and re-inserting the outer needle in the last perforated hole. It can also be used to perforate a circle by perforating two semi circles facing each other, matching the outer needles (perforating them twice). Mix alternately with the regular Semi Circle tool for a different scalloped edge.
